Helen Peters began volunteering for the 2022 Manitoba Games last fall. Helen had spent six years volunteering on the parent board of Growing Minds Daycare and when it became time for her to move on, she was excited to find another role as a volunteer in the community. Helen is the Co-Chair of the Care and Comfort Committee, which oversees the athletes’ villages, food, transportation, access control, and entertainment.
Sports have always been a big part of Helen’s life, and as a young adult, she was proud to represent Manitoba in the 1997 Canada Summer Games in Brandon. She says, “It was an awesome experience! I am thrilled to be able to help provide a similar experience to other young people.” The Care and Comfort Committee has a great team of volunteers, and Helen feels it’s been a fantastic way to connect with other people who share similar passions.
Volunteers are always in high demand, and when asked what she would say to someone thinking about volunteering Helen said, “I encourage everyone in town to find some way to become involved and meet the people who share this community with you. I love what the Games has brought to our town, the new facilities, and the opportunities for my family to be active all year round makes me grateful I have found a way to give back.”
