Evelyne Holenski passed away on Apr. 15, 2023 at the age of 88. Evelyne was a strong and persistent presence in the Manitoba softball community for decades. In 1975, she and her husband, Roy, started the first Smitty’s softball team, which has grown into a mini-female softball empire, now including as many as ten teams at all age levels from 12-and-under through senior A women. In 1985, she founded the Manitoba Ladies Super Softball League and was president from its creation to 1998. She then served as a business manager for Canada’s national teams in 1999 and 2002. She traveled with the national team to multiple events including Pan Am Games and Women’s World Championships, culminating with a competition birth at the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000.
