The Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and the greater sport community are remembering Kenny Ploen, an incredible athlete who passed away on February 13, 2024.
Ploen was an NFL Draft selection by the Cleveland Browns in 1957 but instead signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. During the team’s most dominant seasons, Ploen was at the helm as quarterback, putting together four Grey Cup Championship victories and six appearances in the final game. Ploen also played on the defensive side of the ball, setting a team record for interceptions in 1959 with 10 picks.
Ploen received several honours throughout and after his career, including three all-star nods and several Hall of Fame selections. In his honour, the street where Princess Auto Field sits was renamed Ken Ploen Way upon its opening.
Ken Ploen was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 1987.
