The volleyball and overall sports community is celebrating the life and legacy of Dennis Nord, who passed away on November 29, 2023.
A dedicated builder and volunteer for the sport he loved, Nord was co-chair of the Canadian National Women’s Volleyball team and a board member of the Manitoba Volleyball Association. He sought greater exposure for volleyball in local and national media and re-shaped our province’s high school tournament.
As a player in the 1960s, Nord captained the University of Winnipeg Wesmen during its run to the Canadian Interuniversity Volleyball Championship in 1967-68. Nord also was a tremendous coach and was behind the bench as Assistant Coach for Canada’s men’s team at the 1976 Olympics.
Nord was also dedicated to preserving and honouring our province’s greatest athletes and served for several years as the Chair of the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame’s Selection Committee.
An honouree himself, Nord was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 1996.
