Due to multiple group cancellations from extreme weather and transportation issues, we’ve made the tough call to postpone the event.

We understand how much effort goes into planning for a day like this, and we share in your disappointment.

The Bison Transport Sport LeadHERship Day is designed to empower and inspire women and girls to become leaders in sport, community and life. Partnering with Brandon University, this free event will give school-aged girls the opportunity to learn to lead in the context of sport, athletes, coaches, administrators, and game day operators.

The day will bring various sessions where they can see LeadHERs in action.

LeadHERship Sessions

Keynote Welcome
Hear welcome remarks from Cassie Hawrysh, a coach, journalist, Olympic athlete, and CEO of CassEffect, as she shares her story on how sport has impacted her life and the various ways she’s been involved.

 

Panel Discussion
In a panel facilitated by Cassie Hawrysh, get inspired by what current and past elite athletes have to say about excelling at the next level, including the challenges and triumphs related to women in sport.

Jen Forbes, Department of Physical Education Studies Assistant Professor, Brandon University
Jen holds master’s degrees in Kinesiology and Physical Therapy and is a former national team sprint kayaker. Her athletic achievements include over 30 national championship medals, a gold medal at the 2003 Pan American Games, and competing at the 2005 World Championships. Jen is a mother of two daughters who are active in track, hockey, soccer, and speed skating. Currently Jen is working as an assistant professor at Brandon University in the Department of Physical Education Studies and running a small home-based Physiotherapy practice.

Cali Yates, Student Athlete, Brandon University
Cali is a member of the BU Women’s basketball team and currently pursuing a Psychology degree with the goal of becoming a Sport Psychologist. Cali says that being an athlete has also allowed her to give back to her community in meaningful ways, as volunteering is something she is very passionate about.

Eden Tabin, Student Athlete, Brandon University
Eden is originally from Regina Saskatchewan and plays basketball and Rugby at BU. She is majoring in Anthropology in forensics and her goals for after University are to help the police identify and locate bones and people. 

Tammy Mahon, Former Professional Athlete, Team Canada
Born and raised in Holland, Manitoba, Tammy is a Multi-sport athlete excelling specifically in Volleyball, Basketball, and High Jump.  After high school, Tammy chose to pursue volleyball where she attended the University of Manitoba and won 2 national championships.  She spent 12 years playing for Team Canada, 4 of which she was Team Captain.  She was the MHSAA Female Athlete of the Half Century, member of the Manitoba Volleyball Hall of Fame, The Canada West Hall of Fame, Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame, and still holds every MHSAA High Jump record in the province.

 

Performance Coaching Workshop
Participants will hear from Physiotherapist Bobbi Schram, with over 20 years of experience Bobbi was the first female in the Westman area to provide strength and conditioning services. Bobbi trained amateur and professional athletes including Olympians and NHL players, and currently coaches for BU’s Men’s Soccer team.

 

ZUMBA
Take a break and enjoy some movement with a ZUMBA class led by Brandon University’s own ZUMBA instructor, Lucia Bravo.

 

Careers in Sport Administration
Beth Clark, the Athletics Associate at Assiniboine Community College, discusses her experience in the sports system as an athlete and how it led her to opportunities to work in sports administration and all of the behind-the-scenes work it takes to ensure sports operate smoothly. 

 

Women’s Basketball Game, Brandon vs Saskatchewan
The group will head to the Healthy Living Centre gymnasium to watch the Brandon University Bobcats women’s basketball team take on the Saskatchewan Huskies, tip off at 6:00 p.m.
