It’s been a busy and rewarding summer for Team Toba golfer Addison Kartusch (Winnipeg).
The 15-year-old member of St. Charles Golf & Country Club arrives at the Canada Games coming off a top 30 finish at Junior Nationals. Earlier this summer she won the Provincial Junior, finished 3rd in the Provincial Amateur and was a medalist at the Matchplay qualifier.
“I’ve really made some big improvements from last year to now be shooting consistently in the 70s,” says Kartusch. “After putting in a lot of work over the winter it feels great that things have fallen into place with my game.”
Coach Bri-ann Tokariwski has certainly noticed a change.
“The biggest thing that Addison has worked on is accuracy and distance which has allowed her to shine while competing at a higher level. Her background also competing in high-level hockey gives her a unique perspective that allows her to think her way around the course differently than her fellow competitors.”
Kartusch has already been selected for the Next Gen camp this September at TPC Toronto where she’ll have the opportunity to compete for a spot on Team Canada through skills challenges and qualifying rounds.
But first, the Canada Games this week on the beautiful Battlefield course at Legends on the Niagara. After a pair of practice rounds on Monday and Tuesday that allowed players to familiarize themselves with the course, the competition begins on Wednesday and Kartusch is ready.
“This really is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me, so I’m going to enjoy every moment of it. I’m planning to take it one shot at a time and not worry about the ones that don’t end up exactly where I wanted them.”
