1999-2003 University of Manitoba Bisons Volleyball Team
For four consecutive CIS (now U Sports) seasons, the University of Manitoba Men’s Bisons volleyball team was all-out dominant, capturing three national championships and placing third once.
Led by previous Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame inductees Jim Schreyer (1999-2000) and Garth Pischke (2001-2003), the Bisons ruled the court with few parallels in history. This dynasty includes 28 players, many continuing their passion for volleyball into their professional careers and volunteerism.
Unparalleled Success
During the four-year span, the program had 20 conference all-star selections and nine All-Canadian nods. Manitoba also took home five major awards, split between the conference and national levels, while winning a combined 64 regular season games.
National Championship Dominance
In their national championship-winning campaigns of 2000, 2001, and 2003, the Herd lost just six sets during CIS tournament play. Steve Brinkman (2000) and Mike Munday (2001, 2003) earned Tournament MVP honours, while six Bisons were named Tournament All-Stars.
