Leading up to the 2025 Canada Summer Games, we are featuring the dedicated coaches who spend countless hours giving back to sport. Let’s get to know wrestling coach, Marc Bissonnette!

How long have you been coaching this sport?

25 years

Why did you become a coach?

I love the game and teach and it was also a great way to spend time with my kids

What is your coaching philosophy?

Try to be your best all the time.

What are your personal coaching goals beyond the Canada Games?

I would like to see the Women baseball program be run by women. I would become a support coach.

What has been your biggest accomplishment as a coach?

Being chosen to coach the provincial team and medaling 3 times.

What do you prioritize in your team’s training program?

Trying to get our athletes to get as many reps as possible especially in the areas that needs improvement

What are the team goals for the 2025 Canada Games?

To get a medal, to play to the best of our abilities, to leave it all on the diamond so that there are no regrets.

Any advice for Team Toba athletes?

Be great in everything that you do. Trust yourself and your training.

What are you most looking forward to for the 2025 Games?

Seeing my team compete and enjoying seeing my athletes have the time of their lives.

Who is your favourite professional athlete and why?

Woody Fryman. He was the only left handed pitcher on the Expos when I started following them (I’m left handed), and I got to meet him a few times. He was an unassuming person, always smiling and willing to chat and share a bit of his wisdom with a young fan. I still have his autograph!
