A Board of Directors is an important part of a non-profit organization. For Sport Manitoba, being a Director means using your expertise and experience to provide guidance and direction that acts in the overall best interests of amateur sport in our province.

This can be anything from implementing provincial sport policy, overseeing the development of strategic planning and risk management activities, discussing and determining Sport Manitoba’s direction on major areas, and more.

Ultimately, the board works with the organization and sport community to help every Manitoban have the opportunity to play and be active with the chance to compete at the highest level of their ability.

A Brief History of the Sport Manitoba Board of Directors

The board’s history began with the aim to have various stakeholders of sport delivery represented on Sport Manitoba’s board, as constituted in 1996.

In 2020, a Board Structure Committee reviewed that structure, resulting in a decision to move toward a new, nine-member board that is more consistent with a governance board and not comprised of stakeholders.

The Sport Manitoba Board of Directors is made up of the following:

  • Three (3) members appointed by the provincial government, including Chair and Vice Chair
  • Three (3) members elected by provincial sport governing bodies
  • Three (3) members who are community at-large representatives selected by the nominating committee

Call for a Member at Large

With this new structure, there is currently a Member at Large position open to the public to be filled for October 2023.

The Sport Manitoba Nominating Committee is responsible for identifying and recommending individuals for potential appointment to the Board. Once appointed, a Board Member is expected to act in the interests of Sport Manitoba and the entire sport community.
