The Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame & Museum, a program of Sport Manitoba, is seeking a skilled and motivated Curator to join our team on a part-time basis. This is your opportunity to contribute to Manitoba’s rich sport heritage while collaborating with a dedicated team in a dynamic and rewarding environment.

 

About the Role

As the Curator, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining and showcasing our sport legacy. Reporting to the Sport Heritage Specialist, you’ll lead collections management, exhibit planning, and archival care while ensuring the long-term preservation and accessibility of our treasured artifacts.

 

Key Responsibilities

Collections Management

  • Maintain accurate collection records, including accession logs and databases (Musetoba).
  • Actively pursue collections from current-era athletes, builders, teams and major events.
  • Manage communications with artefact donors and loaners, maintain artefact inventory.
  • Ensure conservation standards, pest control, and cleanliness of storage and gallery spaces.
  • Oversee archival and exhibit collections, ensuring safe storage and display.
  • Respond to research requests and facilitate public access to collections.

 

Exhibits and Events

  • Assist with planning and executing digital and physical exhibits, including artefact selection, cleaning, and mounting for exhibits.
  • Manage displays for Induction Ceremonies and other events.

 

Administration

  • Lead grant applications for museum projects.
  • Budget for projects, storage maintenance, and artifact care.
  • Plan and oversee collections projects.
  • Supervise and support summer, intern, and term staff, as well as volunteers.
  • Maintain relationships with sport heritage community, including individual sport halls of fame.

 

Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field (Museum or Archival Studies training preferred).
  • Experience in collections management and care, with preventative conservation knowledge.
  • Demonstrated experience in grant applications.
  • Project management experience.
  • Proficiency with museum databases (Musetoba preferred).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Passion for sports and sport history.
