Michelle Geortzen: Championing Athletes in All Sports

Since 2013, Michelle Geortzen has been a cornerstone of Special Olympics Manitoba, coaching a diverse range of sports, including track and field, snowshoeing, bowling, bocce, and softball. Her commitment goes beyond teaching sports skills; she opens doors for athletes, giving them opportunities they might not otherwise have had.

 

A Leader in Support and Communication

Michelle’s leadership is reflected in the strong trust and respect she garners from athletes and caregivers alike. Her approach fosters an environment of open communication where athletes feel heard and valued. Volunteers working with Michelle also appreciate her, recognizing their crucial role in the team’s success.

 

Innovative and Inclusive Coaching

With a knack for mastering new technology, Michelle streamlines athlete registration and scheduling, making processes more efficient. She tailors her coaching to the Long-Term Development (LTD) stages of athletes, ensuring each participant, regardless of their stage, can improve and compete with confidence.

 

 

Fostering Confidence and Fun

Michelle’s enthusiasm is infectious. She celebrates every effort and improvement, not just victories, which helps build confidence and maintains high morale among athletes. Her dedication is evident in her willingness to travel extensively for events and her commitment to continuous learning through leadership training.

Michelle’s dedication and passion make her a deserving recipient of the Active for Life Award, recognizing her exceptional contribution to promoting health, fitness, and joy in sport.
