Harry Peter “Bud” Grant passed away at the age of 95 on Mar. 11, 2023. Grant came to Winnipeg in 1953 after an amazing career in the USA in high school, college, and pro sports in baseball, basketball (with the NBA’s Minneapolis Lakers), and, of course, football (with the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles). The “Grey Fox” took the helm as head coach of the CFL’s Blue Bombers in 1957 and led the Winnipeg football club to six western titles and four Grey Cups in five years. In 1966 he left to coach the Minnesota Vikings of the NFL and took that squad to the Super Bowl several times. The Minnesota icon was named athlete of the half-century and spent his retirement years in Eden Prairie MN.
Inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 1984, Bud Grant signed the Honoured Member’s wall in the Hall of Fame in 2015 when Winnipeg hosted the Grey Cup, and he came into town to see our exhibit.
