There are three energy systems at work when you exercise. These systems supply energy to your body and vary depending on the activity you are performing. These energy systems are the Anaerobic Alactic, Anaerobic Lactic, and Aerobic.
The Aerobic system provides energy for your body while you engage in low to medium-intensity activities lasting two minutes to a few hours. This system enhances your body’s ability to utilize oxygen and helps you sustain activities until you reach maximal exhaustion. Regularly performing aerobic exercises is highly beneficial for your cardiopulmonary system (heart, blood vessels and blood, trachea, bronchi and lungs) and will help you improve your overall fitness.
Try these five machines in your next aerobic workout!
1. Air Bike
As you move your body, this machine will raise your heart rate and help you build stamina. Major muscles at work while using the air bike include hamstrings, quadriceps, hip flexors, calves, core, biceps, and triceps.
2. Rower
A rower stroke activates your lower body (quadriceps and glutes), upper body (deltoids and latissimus dorsi – lats), and core (rectus abdominis). This piece of equipment is sure to improve your aerobic fitness.
3. SpeedFit
This motor-less treadmill is a great option when you want to do a power walk, a quick jog, or sprints. This treadmill will primarily target your glutes and hamstrings.
4. Jacobs Ladder
This high-intensity, low-impact machine will help you improve your aerobic fitness. As you climb, you’re engaging your glutes, hamstrings, calves, core, chest, and shoulders.
5. StairMaster
Stair climbing is a great option when aiming to improve aerobic fitness. Besides helping your heart and lungs, this machine will also strengthen your lower body (glutes, hamstrings, quadriceps, and calves).
