Jason Lyon
Jason or more commonly known as Jay started competing in archery in 2002 as a 16-year old inspired by his brother Blair’s gold medal performance at the 2001 Nationals. A year later he was a member of Team Manitoba winning his own gold medal at the 2003 Canada Winter Games in the team event and individual bronze in men’s recurve.
Today his sights are set on Beijing and the 2008 Olympics.
A four time national champion, Jay’s international experience includes the 2004 World Junior Championships, the 2005 and 2007 World Senior Championships and the 2007 Pan American Games. It was at the 2007 Worlds where Jay helped Canada earn three Olympic spots by getting to 8th position in the team round. It marks the first time that Canada will field a full archery team at the Olympics since 1996 in Atlanta.
Jay followed up that performance by winning a silver medal in the team event at the Pan Am Games in Rio where he also finished 4th in individual competition, along the way setting and breaking the games 12 arrow match play record. Formerly the holder of the Canadian record 1440, Jay holds the 720 Olympic round record of 662 and shares the national 12 arrow match record.
Away from the range, the 21-year old University of Winnipeg student enjoys hunting and fishing, hockey, volleyball and racquetball.
